In the early 1960s, the “Karl Marx” locomotive factory in Potsdam-Babelsberg received a contract to build 30 diesel locomotives in Cape gauge (1067 mm) for the Indonesian State Railways.
The prototype was initially manufactured in meter gauge to test the locomotive on the narrow-gauge railways in the Harz Mountains. From 1966 onwards, this prototype was used as V 30 001 at the Wernigerode Westerntor depot. This was primarily used for shunting duties, pulling bogies and work trains.
In 1970, with the introduction of the computerized numbering system, the locomotive was initially given the incorrect number 103 901 and was renumbered again in 1972 to 199 301.
The locomotive was acquired by the HSB in 1993. Due to a lack of demand, it has been put out of repair since 1997.
